Before and After Images
Varicose veins and spider veins are two different issues with different attributes caused by venous insufficiency. They develop when the walls and valves of the veins weaken, which causes blood to pool in the veins, increasing the pressure and forcing them to become enlarged. Here, we share some before and after images to give you an idea of what you may be able to expect from treatment*.
- Tiny blue or red veins with spider web appearance just below the surface of the skin, usually on upper or lower legs
- Usually painless
- Often treated for cosmetic reasons
- Generally do not lead to other health problems, but should be evaluated
- Large, twisting veins typically seen or felt above the skin
- Most common in the legs
- Can be painful with feelings of heaviness or aching as well as swelling
- Left untreated, may lead to more serious health conditions such as blood clots, skin inflammation or ulcers
