Causes

Venous insufficiency is a condition caused by valves inside of veins which fail to function  properly. Veins are responsible for carrying blood back to the heart, using internal valves that  keep blood flowing in the proper direction. When these valves become damaged, malfunction, or simply  wear out, blood can pool in the lower veins, resulting in the formation of varicose veins and uncomfortable accompanying symptoms.
